Hope 💛
How do you feel when you look back at 2024?
At the start of 2024 I made a video of all of the most amazing moments from 2023 because it made me happy to recognise and celebrate all of them.
This year I haven't felt like doing that.
That's not to say I haven't had plenty of amazing moments:
✨️ I went to Japan and fell in love with it - especially the food
✨️ I saw the northern lights (bucket list item for me definitely!)
✨️ I hosted all 3 generations of my family in my home, something I never thought would happen due to distance and travel difficulties, and it was such a wonderful day
✨️ I found my passion outside of medicine and was brave enough to follow it
✨️ I worked with lots of wonderful coaching clients who trusted me enough to be vulnerable and open in the coaching space
✨️ I started my own business and learned lots of new skills, pushing myself to try things I've never done before because it matters to me
And yet, when I think back to 2024, it's hard to see past the grief. We lost a beloved family member too young, a loss that you can never be prepared for.
It's hard to grieve in a world that expects you to keep moving forwards. I've learned that you can't control grief, you dont know when it will suddenly wash over you. All you can do in those moments is allow yourself to feel it all; the love, the loss, the pain.
What I've realised is that when we lose the people that we love, you can still feel their presence in your life. In the memories you made, in the people they loved and helped to shape, in the way they lived their life. When I think about my uncle, I remember his courage until the very end, his gratitude for even the smallest things when life gave him more than his fair share of burdens, and the way he was full of love and laughter.
Today on New Year's day, I asked my husband to tell me one thing he loved about me. He said: The little flame of hope inside you that never goes out 🔥
And when he said that, I could feel that little flame start to burn brighter. Sometimes a reminder from someone else of the strength that you have inside you is all you need ❤️
Losing someone never gets easier. But there is still always hope. Hope that life will continue to expand around the space that they have left in your life. Hope that their example strengthens the bonds of the people left behind. Hope that you can take what you learned from their life, and mirror those wonderful things in your own life.
So here's to hope in 2025 💛
